Can I go blind with Laser Eye Surgery?

Unfortunately there is a risk that you could become blind following laser eye surgery. Thankfully this risk is extremely rare and would be more likely to occur due to post surgery eye infection than the operation itself.

Laser eye surgery has come a long way since the first operation was done in 1992. Nowadays the procedure is very safe, as the majority of it is done with the help of a computer. For example, in the most common correction procedure called LASIK, after a flap in the cornea has been made a laser is used to reshape your cornea to correct your vision. When the laser is used, it is guided by a computer so that it cannot damage your eye. However, as with all technology there is a risk that it could go wrong. Even though there is the smallest of risks, it is not enough to warrant not having the procedure.
