If you undertake UAL with only a local anaesthetic then you will be treated as a day patient and allowed to go home within a few hours of your operation.  The anaesthetic will mean that you won’t be able to drive, and you ought to have someone to help you for the first day of so after your surgery.

The incisions made in UAL are very small, and as a result are unlikely to need sutures.  This also helps to drain any excess fluid retained under the skin from the ‘tumescent’ injections.  You will encounter some swelling, this being an unavoidable part of the healing process after surgery, and there might be small amounts of bleeding and bruising.

You can control the pain or discomfort that you experience with everyday painkillers available from your local pharmacy.  Within a few days or a week the swelling ought to dissipate and the wounds scab over.

Your surgeon might require you to wear a supportive garment for a week after your surgery, although different surgeons have different attitudes to this.

You will need to continue to see your surgeon for post-operative consultations, to ensure that you are recovery as well as you ought.

Most people take a few days to two weeks off work, depending on the extent of the surgery and the type of work that they do.

You ought to be able to resume normal activities within two weeks to a month after UAL.
