Regular Check-Ups with Dentures
Find UK Dentists »
It is important to have regular check-ups with your dentist so that he or she can monitor how you are finding your dentures. They will be able to examine your mouth, and look for any changes, as well as check the health of your teeth, gums and tongue. They can also monitor you for oral cancers and denture stomatitis. Your dentist can also check for signs of the dentures ageing, as well as advise you on how to care for them. They can also provide professional cleaning of your dentures, which will remove stains and marks. It is likely that each time you visit your dentist will ask you if you have any areas of soreness or pain in your mouth; how comfortable you are finding your dentures; how often you are wearing them and how you are cleaning them.
How Often Should I Visit the Dentist?
Immediately after your dentures are fitted you will probably need to see the dentist more regularly so that they can make any necessary adjustments. Your dentist will provide guidance regarding how often you should visit after that. It is very important that you have a regular check-up (every six months is considered normal). Always make sure you tell your dentist about any changes in your health such as diabetes and pregnancy, so that he can prescribe treatments that will work with any medicine that you’re already taking.
