Neurotoxin

This is any substance that, when introduced to the body, has an immediate effect on the nerve cells and tissue. Neurotoxins can come from a variety of sources. Some can be found in the venom of poisonous snakes, spiders and scorpions. Other sources can include gases, liquids and solids. Neurotoxins work by interfering with the ion channels in the nerve cell membranes. This can lead to an overall disruption in the communication between nerve cells and other cells such that a person can no longer control their muscles or their breathing.
