Many people considering chin reduction surgery choose to combine this with other treatment options to improve their appearance as much as possible. Liposuction is very often combined with chin reduction surgery. This has the benefit of not only resizing and reshaping the chin, but also of removing fat that tends to gather underneath the chin giving you a ‘double chin’.
Liposuction to Remove a Double Chin
Liposuction is often used on the neck and chin to remove a ‘double chin’. Liposuction works by breaking down the fat cells and then removing them from your body through a suction device. This is sometimes combined with other cosmetic procedures, such as chin reduction surgery, to dramatically alter your appearance.
There are different techniques for removing the fat under the chin with liposuction. Whilst these techniques involve the same basic procedure, they differ in the way that the fat is broken down. Many surgeons use the tumescent technique, during which the treatment area is filled with a tumescent fluid, which contains an anaesthetic and a vascular constrictor to prevent blood loss. A cannula is then inserted into the area and used to break down the fat. The fluid cushions the surrounding tissue preventing it from being damaged.
Other surgeons prefer to break the fat down using other methods. One of the most popular of these methods is vaser liposuction, during which ultrasonic waves are used to break down the fat before. The cannula is then used to suction the broken down fat out of the body.
Each of these procedures is effective and they are both used to remove fat pockets under the chin.
Combination of Chin Reduction and Liposuction
If you have both a large or protruding chin, and a double chin, it may be worth combining chin reduction surgery with liposuction to ensure that you are completely happy with your appearance after your recovery. In order to do this you will need to find a clinic that has a good reputation and which can perform both procedures.
Combining liposuction with a chin reduction will allow you to increase the balance between your facial features and will also make you look younger. A horizontal chin reduction can be used in combination with liposuction to narrow the chin making it more rounded. During this procedure, the tip of the chin will be removed from the face and will then be reshaped using a burr. The excess bone will be removed and the chin’s tip will be fixed back in place with wires and metal plates.
A vertical chin reduction can be used in combination with liposuction to shorten the chin and prevent it from sticking out. The part of the middle section of the chin will be removed and discarded to put an end to the elongated look that your chin has. This will also stop the chin from sticking out of your face. The upper and lower parts of your chin will then be rejoined with a metal plate.
Liposuction will be used to get rid of the pocket of fat under your chin. In some cases, this may not be possible to do in the same operation and you will need to have your liposuction on a different day. During this procedure, the excess fat under your chin will be broken down and removed giving you a slimmer and more youthful appearance.
When combined a chin reduction and liposuction can completely transform your appearance making you much more attractive and drawing attention to your best features rather than your worst.
