Risks of Dental Implants in India

There are going to be some risks, however negligible, with having dental implant treatment anywhere in the world. Fortunately the quality of Indian dental clinics means that these risks will not be increased.
Typical risks of dental implant treatment in India
The biggest risk universally of dental implant treatment is that the osseointegration process might fail, rendering the entire procedure ineffective, and necessitating emergency treatment. Normally such problems will not come to light until you have returned home, by which time it will be difficult to immediately return to India. Furthermore, immediate loading will make any such difficulties even more difficult to remedy. Minor risks include infection, and a chance that the implant might come loose, but again the likelihood of either of these things happening, especially following treatment in a quality Indian dental clinic, is extremely low.
Risks during the recovery period following dental implant treatment in India
The best way to minimise risks during the recovery period, through which you will be most vulnerable, is to make sure that the clinic of your choice is properly accredited and the dentist properly qualified. There is little more you can do than this. Immediately after the fitting of the implant, your mouth will take about two weeks to fully heal (probably longer in the case you have had gum or bone grafting). Usually you will be advised to remain in India until this process is complete. The osseointegration process is lengthy so you will want to find out what sensations to expect; this way it is easiest to find out if there is something amiss with the healing.
How to reduce the risks of dental implant treatment in India
You must be sure that you liaise with your UK dentist and if at all possible establish contact between your UK dentist and your Indian dentist. If the UK dentist knows the details of the procedure, then he or she may be able to rectify any problems you encounter once you have returned home, or at the very least prevent any difficulties from exacerbating. It is unlikely that you will encounter any of the potential risks but not impossible. Nonetheless, it can be extremely difficult to correct dental implants gone wrong, so be sure to prepare in case anything should happen.
