Side Effects of Eyebrow & Eyelash Transplants

After the initial surgery for an eyebrow transplant, the area may be bruised, inflamed, or swollen, but there are few other side effects associated with this surgery. Eyelash transplants have the additional tendency to create an itching sensation called pruritus along the brim of the eyelid. If you scratch the eyelid, it is very likely that the newly inserted eyelashes will fall out. This itching should only last one to two days; if it persists beyond that time frame it may be due to infection which should be treated immediately. Pruritus can be managed with ointments on the eyelid and glasses should be worn during the day and night to prevent accidental scratching.
