Groin Sweating (Groin Hyperhidrosis)
Hyperhidrosis can occur in any area of the body, and this includes the groin area. This area can prove very embarrassing as often it can contribute to bromhidrosis, or bad body odour due to the nature of the groin area. The groin area contains aprocrine glands, sweat glands that can produce mal-odours more often than normal sweat glands. It is believed that in the past these glands gave us a distinct body smell that would have helped with identification in the past, but nowadays are surplus to requirements. Sweating of the groin area can be uncomfortable, and might make you nervous of the smell and of social situations.
Groin Problems
Excess sweating of the groin area can prove uncomfortable and might create chaffing of clothes that in turn could create skin problems and discomfort. Walking can even become difficult if this occurs. As well as physical problems such as skin irritation, excess sweating can cause confidence problems and might create awkwardness in social settings. If you are constantly worrying about your sweating or smell then it is unlikely that you will relax throughout your day.
There are things that you can do to help with your sweating and the smell that it might produce. But it is important that you find out why this is occurring so that you can properly treat it.
Causes of Groin Sweating
There are many reasons why you might find yourself suffering from excessive sweating around the groin region. These include:
- Liver problems
- Primary Hyperhidrosis
- Secondary Hyperhidrosis
- Parasitic habitation
- Diet related problems
- Poor hygiene
These vary in terms of medical seriousness, but if you do find that you are sweating overly then it is a very good idea to make sure that you know why. This will ensure that you don’t live with the condition needlessly, and your doctor will also be able to reassure you if you do not suffer from any problem but are concerned about your smell or sweat levels.
Seeking Help
There are real reasons why a consultation with your doctor is a good idea if you find that you are suffering from an excess of sweat around the groin region. This might be just a symptom of a larger problem, such as a liver condition, that could be a larger, more serious health risk.
Making an appointment to visit your GP is easy, and can be made over the phone or sometimes online. Initially you should talk to your normal GP, although they may in turn refer you to specialists such as a dermatologist. They will be able to test you and check you over to try to determine the cause of your sweat problem.
