Tracheostomy
Tracheostomy is the oldest method used to treat sleep apnoea. It is the most dramatic of treaments in which a tube is placed directly through your neck and into your windpipe. It is the most effective of surgeries, having a success rate of nearly 100%. However, due to its severity as a procedure you would only receive this form of surgery should you be suffering from an extremely severe case of sleep apnoea and it be a potentially life-threatening case. The procedure is carried out under general anaesthetic. There are complications that can arise after the procedure is carried out and your doctor would discuss these with you.
