Insomnia is one of the more commonly heard of sleep disorders, and is also a term many of us have probably used when we’ve had a bad night’s sleep. Insomnia is associated with an inability to get to sleep, waking up in the night and being unable to get to sleep again and difficulty staying asleep. Insomnia affects the sufferer’s lifestyle with a lack of concentration, weariness and irritability. It is important that people do not confuse insomnia with other forms of sleeplessness. Insomnia is a cause of lack of sleep through an unknown aspect i.e. the sufferer will not know why they cannot sleep. Whereas sleeplessness is caused through a factor within our lifestyle of sleeping environment, (read Factors Affecting Sleeping Patterns).
