Wakefulness Test
A Wakefulness Test is carried out in a sleep centre where you will be encouraged to stay awake for a certain period of time. It will measure your ability to stay awake, and monitor the severity of your daytime sleepiness. If you are unable to stay awake for a certain period of time, then the test will be repeated throughout the day. If you do not fall asleep after 40 minutes then you may be asked to stop the test, as you are not suffering from excessive sleepiness. The test will indicate whether you are safe to carry out routine tasks, or whether your excessive sleepiness could affect these. The test and can also be used to analyse the success of your treatment for your daytime sleepiness.
