Each scar is different, and is judged by doctors and surgeons on the NHS as to whether they can be treated for free. It will be much depend on your scar as to whether you qualify but as a general rule
- Scars that impede movement or are painful will be treated
- Unsightly scars over 2cms in length on the face are likely to be treated
- Other scarring will be looked at and a panel will decide whether they are severe enough to warrant the surgery
- Purely cosmetic issues are unlikely to be treated unless in extreme cases
- Self harming scars will be assessed individually, although the NHS will not perform any surgery if there are scars less than around three years old.
