How Ultherapy works and treatment process

Ultherapy is a non-invasive anti-ageing treatment, which uses ultrasound technology to penetrate the skin surface and stimulate collagen production. Collagen is a fibre, which gives the skin its structure and elasticity; as you age, the collagen stores become depleted and this is why the skin starts to lose its shape and become saggy and wrinkly.
This treatment transmits ultrasound waves beneath the skin layers and creates the optimum temperature for the production of collagen, triggering the process of neocollagenesis, which means the creation of new collagen. In effect, the treatment works by stimulating the body’s natural responses to ageing and there are no injections, creams, lotions or surgical procedures involved.
Before treatment
There is no preparation required for ultherapy and you won’t need to apply any special creams or lotions; you simply turn up, sit back and relax and your practitioner will talk you through the process and go through what you can expect over the course of the next hour and a half.
During treatment
When you have treatment, your practitioner will use a monitor to direct the ultrasound beams, which are emitted by the hand-piece, to the perfect depth underneath the skin surface; this helps to create the optimum temperature for neocollagenesis. As the temperature of the tissue rises, this facilitates collagen production and you can notice the results after just one session. Prior to treatment, you will be given local anaesthetic to prevent you from feeling any pain during the procedure; although you shouldn’t feel pain during the treatment, it is likely that you will experience mild discomfort and this is a positive sign that the process of building new collagen has started.
During treatment, you will be able to feel the process of energy being targeted into the specific skin layers; this sensation is short-lived and you won’t feel anything once the procedure has finished.
After 3-8 weeks, you will start to notice the effects of treatment; the full effects will become visible around 60-90 days after your treatment session.
