Risks of dental implant treatment are universal and can occur regardless of which country a patient opts to undergo it. Mercifully, there are very few horror stories bouncing around about malpractice and bad dental implant treatment, and the typical Hungarian dentist will be competitive as well as ethical, both factors contributing to a considerable low rate of risk for this treatment.
Typical risks of dental implant treatment in Hungary
As in every case of this treatment worldwide, the primary risk associated with dental implant treatment is failure of the osseointegration process. This can have several ramifications, most of which can combine to result in the ultimate failure of the treatment. Typically any osseointegration that goes wrong will simply leave the patient with a loose implant, which usually does not actually cause too many problems, especially if the mouth area is maintained under to the hygienic conditions specified by the dentist. The implant can then be removed and another put in its place. However, there are other potential problems associated with this failure, including infection. The particular risk of having such treatment done in Hungary is that any difficulties that arise with the osseointegration will likely not manifest until you have returned home, making an immediate return to Hungary almost impossible. Furthermore if you have immediate loading done then any difficulties become yet harder to resolve.
Risks during the recovery period following dental implant treatment in Hungary
Certainly this period of time is when you will be most vulnerable to any complications. Once your implant has been fitted, the mouth will take up to two weeks to properly heal, a time window that will increase if the dentist found it necessary to perform gum or bone grafting. In most cases the Hungarian dentist will advise you to remain in the country at least until this initially period of convalescence is over. As the osseointegration process takes a long while to complete, you may well wish to find out what feelings you can expect to notice during this time. Overall, the best thing to do to reduce the risks is to ensure that the dentist and clinic are fully qualified and accredited, and this will then ensure that every effort is made to reduce any potential dangers, including during this risky period.
How to reduce the risks of dental implant treatment in Hungary
It is also wise, and highly advisable, to make sure your UK and Hungarian dentists have a form of contact. If you need to establish this yourself then you must make sure you do. This can be useful on several levels, mainly because your UK dentist will then know the details of the procedure, and be able to perform any supplementary work, in an emergency or otherwise, that needs doing on your return; this can help save the entire procedure from failure, as well as save you a lot of hassle and the potential of further complications. However, it is ultimately unlikely that you will meet with any of the potential difficulties as a result of having dental implant treatment in Hungary.
