There are many reasons why you might opt for a fat transfer for breast augmentation. It could be that you prefer the more natural look, it could be that the shorter recovery time is better-suited to your lifestyle or it could be that you are drawn to how low the risks are with the procedure. For many women, this option makes the most sense. These women often want just a small change in their breast appearance but don't like the idea of other objects such as silicone or saline implants being placed in their body. There are many other advantages with this procedure and it is definitely worth considering if you want to change the way your breasts look.
Natural-looking results
Fat transfer breast augmentation is a great option if you want a more natural look. Your breasts will only increase by around one cup size or less during this procedure, depending on how large you want them and how much fat you have on your body. The shape of the breasts can also be made more natural as well. With other options such as implants, the shape of the breast can become quite round and may look fake. However, your surgeon can use the fat injections to sculpt the breasts, creating the shape that you want. This is great for women that want just a minimal increase in volume with a fuller shape.
Dual function
Another reason why many women opt for fat transfer breast augmentation is that not only can it enhance your breasts, but it provides an opportunity for you to have fat removed from different parts of your body. There may be an area on your body that you have been trying to lose fat from for a while and it just won't budge. Fat transfer breast augmentation provides a great opportunity for you to have this reduced. You will discuss this with your surgeon during the consultation and if there is enough fat in the area, you will be able to have liposuction there.
Low maintenance
With fat transfer, you will most likely only need to have the procedure once. This is because once the fat cells are injected into your breasts, they will not need to be taken out. They have come from your own body; no artificial material is used. This means that you can have the fat transferred to your breasts once, and won't need to worry about annual check-ups. In this sense, the procedure is very convenient. However, in some cases you may want to have the procedure done again in the future. There is a chance that the fat injected into your breasts is reabsorbed by your body, reducing your breasts back to their original size. This can be resolved simply by using liposuction to remove the fat from another part of the body and injecting it back into your breasts. Also, if you start to see bumps in your breasts or redness, this could be a sign of fat necrosis and can be easily resolved through another short procedure.
Fast recovery period
After your fat transfer breast augmentation surgery, you will be able to resume most of your regular daily activity within 2 or 3 days. This is ideal if you don't want to take too much time off work. You will then be able to do more strenuous exercise 2 to 4 weeks after the procedure. This is because the incisions made during the procedure are small and, therefore, won't take very long to heal. They are injections which require a tiny needle piercing. You are also unlikely to need sutures after the procedure. With breast implants, the incisions are large enough that the surgeon will need to place sutures in to hold your breasts in place whilst they recover. For fat transfer breast augmentation, this isn't necessary meaning that your body will fully heal much more quickly.
Low risks
The risks from fat transfer breast augmentation relative to other procedures are very low. This is due to a variety of reasons. Firstly, in most cases you will only need to be under local anaesthesia. The risks associated with local anaesthesia are low although you may experience some mild dizziness and tiredness. This means that after the procedure, you will be more or less ready to spring back into your regular daily routine. It also means that you can drive home alone and do not need someone to accompany you. Secondly, the fat transferred to your breasts is from your own body. This eliminates the chance of rejection. With other breast augmentation procedures, such as implants, there is a chance that your body will reject the foreign body.
You may, however, experience fat necrosis. This is when the fat cells that are transferred to your breasts die, causing swelling, redness, scarring and sometimes pain. In many cases, this is not something to worry about. These symptoms can subside and are often not even visible. However, if you are worried about this and want the problem removed, your surgeon can dissolve the lumps. Therefore, fat necrosis is not something to worry about and can be easily resolved.
Less scarring
Because the incisions made from the procedure are small and made with a needle, any scars that form will not be very visible. You won't need to worry about too much scarring coming up from fat transfer breast augmentation and your breasts will be left looking natural.
