Consultation for Facelift Surgery

Facelift Surgery Clinics in London & UK »

Your initial consultation determines whether you are ready and prepared for facelift surgery. It also determines whether the surgeon you meet with is suitable for you. It will be necessary for you to discuss personal desires and medical history. Consequently, if you do not feel comfortable with him or her, then it may be necessary for you to find someone you can be comfortable with.

Medical History

Your surgeon will talk to you about previous or current medical conditions and will advise you whether they can affect your surgery and the risks. Your use of medications, supplements, alcohol, and whether you smoke will be inquired about. You must be truthful, because these factors can seriously influence recovery and surgical results.

Risks of Facelift Surgery (Rhytidectomy) & Alternative Facial Improvements

Your surgeon will discuss the risks of surgery in general; the chances of infection and the risks of anaesthesia should be brought to your attention. He or she will also point out the particular risks that can arise with facelift surgery, such as numbness and discolouration. Alternative methods of facial rejuvenation will be brought to your attention and an alternative surgical procedure may be offered giving better results for you. Listen to your surgeon, but also be clear about what you want.

Skin Evaluation

For many of the less invasive facelifts, such as a mini or thread facelift, skin elasticity is important for good end results. Your surgeon will make an assessment of your skin elasticity to see which procedure is best for you. If skin elasticity is a problem, a traditional facelift may be suggested as the best option for you.

Ask Questions

The initial consultation is not just a means for your surgeon to gather information about you; the initial meeting is also for you to ask questions. Ask any queries you have about the procedure or the process before or after surgery. It is important you feel you know as much as possible about the process so that you do not at any point feel out of control; this is your body after all.

Your Surgeon’s Experience

So that you feel that you are in capable hands, you must not shy away from asking questions about your surgeon’s experience with cosmetic surgery. You must particularly ask about his or her experience with facelift procedures.  It is perfectly acceptable to see photos of previous surgeries and you can talk to your surgeon about where they qualified and where they worked after qualifying.
