Find UK Dentists »
Colgate has provided the UK market with a range of products that a specially designed for children of varying ages. This is deemed necessary as children’s teeth are still developing, whether the milk teeth be just growing or if the child is forming adult teeth and these phases in life have different oral care needs.
To deal with the different needs that are required to be met as the child ages, Colgate have developed several products for children of difference ages. They have made them very child-friendly by making the both the specially designed toothpastes and toothbrushes bright and colourful. On some occasions, they have also sold products with popular cartoon characters on to appeal to the child.
It is very important to make tooth brushing an appealing activity for child so they continue to do it on a regular basis for the rest of their lives. This makes the Colgate Smile for Children range ideal in developing an oral care routine with the children’s parents that the children can maintain in the future on their own.
Colgate toothpastes for 0-2 year olds
For those very young children who are only just growing their milk teeth, requite special care in terms of keeping gums healthy as well as the brand new teeth that are coming through. Colgate have manufactured a toothbrush that is designed especially for this age bracket, which has softer bristles to gently clean young teeth and gums.
Colgate toothpastes for 2-6 year olds
Paediatric dentists have helped Colgate develop the Smiles toothpaste for 2-6 year olds to ensure it provides optimum benefits and doesn’t damage new and developing milk teeth.
Colgate Smiles toothpaste for this age bracket is designed to protect against tooth decay and cavities. It also helps strengthen enamel as it contains fluoride. Although in children, fluoride is commonly associated with fluorosis, Colgate have ensured that the dosage they have included is relatively low to prevent this issue from arising.
To make this toothpaste even more suitable for 2-6 year olds, Colgate have only given it a mild minty flavour as it has been found that many children are put off by the stronger mint flavours of regular toothpaste.
Colgate toothpastes for 6 plus year olds
Colgate has developed Smiles 6 plus toothpaste to cater for this age bracket. It contains a higher level of fluoride than the 2-6 year old specified toothpaste. This is to further strengthen the enamel, and also because it is easier to prevent the swallowing of the foam as the child gets older to prevent fluorosis.
This toothpaste has been formulated to help the newly growing adult teeth to be healthy and clean. The fluoride also strengthens the enamel, as it is softer than normal at first, this can help protect against cavities and tooth decay.
Recommended Usage
These products should be used twice each day – every morning and night – to develop the child’s oral hygiene routine. The child can then adopt this regular routine for the future and keep their teeth and gums healthy for the rest of their lives.
