Brevinor Contraceptive Pill
Brevinor is a combined contraceptive pill that is manufactured by Pharmacia Ltd. It is known as a combined contraceptive because it contains more than one hormone. It contains 0.035mg of ethinylestradiol, which is a synthetic hormone of oestrogen and 0.5mg of norethisterone, which is the synthetic of progestogen. Like the majority of contraceptive pills, it maintains a 99% effective rate, which means that out of 100 women who use Brevinor, only one will get pregnant. Aside from contraception, Brevinor is also very good at reducing heavy periods and is used to regulate the menstrual cycle.
Brevinor is classed as a monophasic pill because each pill contains the same amount of hormones throughout the pack. This has an advantage in that it is easier to deal with if you have missed a pill or started the pack late, as all the pills are the same. However, the pill just releases a steady stream of hormones into your blood stream for most of your cycle so it does not follow the natural fluctuations in your body. Therefore, you may experience more side effects from Brevinor than other types of pill.
There are a number of advantages that Brevinor offers. The contraceptive pill is a very efficient simple way of protecting yourself from pregnancy as when you take one pill a day and it doesn’t interfere with sex. No one can tell that you are using the contraceptive pill and if used correctly, it has a very high success rate. It also offers the advantage of regulating your period so you know when and how long your period will last as well as making them shorter and lighter so you don’t experience as much menstrual pain.
It is a 21-day pill so you are given packs of pills that contain 21 pills in little bubbles. Each one corresponds to a day written above the bubble which helps you remember what day to take your pill on. It is easier to notice if you have missed a pill if you look at this calendar. You take a pill every day at the same time for 21 days until you finish the pack. Then you stop taking the contraceptive pill for seven days to allow your body to have a withdrawal bleed. Your start the next pill on the eighth pill free day and the cycle starts once more.
Every pill contains the same amount of the active hormones. They also contain lactose, maize starch, polyvidone, magnesium stearate and coloring. Brevinor needs to be stored in a dry cool place, out of sunlight and you should not pass the expiry date on the medication. Return any unused medication to the pharmacy so that they can expose of it properly.
