Logynon is a form of combined contraceptive pill that is manufactured by Bayer. It aims to prevent pregnancy and it is very effective in doing so if used correctly. It contains two hormone derivatives, which prevent you from getting pregnant in a variety of ways.

Logynon is a combined contraceptive pill, which means that it contains two different hormones to have an effect on your menstrual cycle. Logynon contains levonorgestrel and ethinylestradiol, which are the derivatives of progestogen and oestrogen. They stop you from becoming pregnant by preventing egg release, thinning the uterus lining and thickening the vaginal mucous.

This brand of contraceptive pill is classed as a triphasic pill because they don’t all contain the same levels of hormones within a pack. It is a 21-day pill so each in pack there are 21 pills, which are split into three different doses. The first six pills are light brown and contain 50 micrograms of levonorgestrel and 30 micrograms of ethinylestradiol. The next 5 tablets are white and contain 70 micrograms of levonorgestrel and 40 micrograms of ethinylestradiol. The last ten pills are ochre coloured and contain 125micrograms of levonorgestrel and 30 micrograms of ethinylestradiol. These changes in the hormone levels are supposed to mimic the natural flow of hormones in the body in the attempt to lower the side effects you experience from the pill. At the end of the strip, you stop taking the pills and experience a withdrawal bleed.

Logynon has a number of advantages. Like all contraceptive pills, it is very effective and efficient at preventing pregnancy. It is a very discrete way of protecting yourself from falling pregnant and it can also help control your periods. It tends to make them more regular, shorter and lighter than usual. The side effects of the pill are also lessened when compared to those caused by a monophasic pill. However, the pill does not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases. Logynon must be taken in the correct order and it is more difficult to amend forgetting a pill.

The pill also contains maize starch, sucrose, calcium carbonate, talc, glycerin, titanium dioxide, polyethylene, povidone and magnesium stearate.
