Mercilon Contraceptive Pill
Mercilon is a form of contraception that comes in the form of the combined contraceptive pill. This low dose form of pill is manufactured by Organon. It is a very effective method of contraception because it has three mechanisms that prevent pregnancy. It contains two hormone derivatives of the natural hormones in the body that control the menstrual cycle.
The pill is a monophasic pill because every pill contains the same amount of hormones. They do not differ in their levels. There is 20 micrograms of ethinylestradiol, which is a derivative of oestrogen and there is 150 micrograms of desogestrel, which is a derivative of progestogen. The constant levels of hormones that the pill supplies prevents an egg from being released fro the ovaries. It also thickens the vaginal fluid so that the sperm have difficulty in reaching the egg and it also thins the uterus lining.
There are 21 pills in each strip. Therefore, each cycle contains 21 pills. You take a pill every day at the same time every day until all 21 pills have been taken. Then you take a seven-day break where you do not take any pills and this will allow your body to have a withdrawal bleed. You then start the next strip after the seven days so that you will be protected from pregnancy. As long as the pill is used correctly, it is unlikely that you will become pregnant.
Many women are very happy when using Mercilon. This brand is a very effective method of contraception and if it is used correctly, it is very reliable. It is also easy to reverse so if you want to start a family, it will not affect your fertility. An added bonus of most contraceptive pills is that it can relieve some pre-menstrual symptoms. The pill thins the uterus lining so during a period there is not as much lining to break down so your period will be lighter and shorter than usual. It also regulates your periods so you know exactly when your period will start. However, a drawback of the contraceptive pill is that it will not protect you from any sexually transmitted infections and you also may experience some side effects.
Every pill contains the active hormones but it also contains a variety of inactive ingredients, which include aerosol, dl-alpha-tocopherol, potato starch, stearic acid, povidone and lactose.
