Marvelon and Pregnancy
Marvelon should not be used whilst you are pregnant, as the hormones do not make the womb a favorable place for the foetus to grow. If you think that you may be pregnant, do a pregnancy test for confirmation and consult your doctor. If you are pregnant, you need to stop taking Marvelon.
If you want to try for a baby, the contraceptive pill is easily reversible. All you need to do is finish the strip that you are on and then stop taking the contraceptive pill. The contraceptive pill will not affect your fertility levels but it may take a couple of months before your cycle returns to normal. It is best to wait until you have had a regular period. It is not necessary that you do this but it is easier for the doctor to work out your due date if you known when you last regular period was.
If you want to breast-feed, you should not use Marvelon. The pill contains oestrogen, which can cause reduction in milk production so there is a chance that the pill can affect your milk flow, and you won’t be able to feed your baby. Also, you can pass the hormones onto your child and the effects of this are not known. You are advised to wait until your baby has been weaned before you use a hormonal method of contraception.
If you are not breast-feeding and you want to use the contraceptive pill, you can do so if you are fully mobile. You can start using the contraceptive pill 21 days after delivery and you will be protected from pregnancy straight away. If you are any later than 21 days, you will not be protected from pregnancy. If there have been any complications with your delivery or you are immobile for a long period of time, you should not use Marvelon as it could pose a health risk.
