Missing a Cerazette Pill
Usually, if you take progestogen only pills more than three hours late, you will not be protected from pregnancy. However, Cerazette differs in that if the pill is more than 12 hours late it will not be effective and you can get pregnant.
If you forget to take your pill at the correct time and when you realize this, it is less than 12 hours late, you should take the pill as soon as you remember. You should then continue taking the rest of the pack as normal. You should be protected from pregnancy as long as you continue to take the rest of the pills correctly.
If you forget to take a pill and it has been more than 12 hours since the expected time, this changes the situation. You will not be protected from pregnancy in this instance. Take the missed pill as soon as you notice and then continue with the rest of the pack. This may mean that you take more than one pill in a day, however this will not cause you any harm. You should use extra protection for the next seven days, as there is a chance you could get pregnant.
If you have forgotten more than one pill, there is a higher risk of you falling pregnant. Take the last pill you missed, not all the ones you have forgotten and continue the pack as normal. Make sure you use additional protection. If you had unprotected sex in the time in which you missed pills, you should get the emergency contraceptive pill, as you could be pregnant. You are also more likely to fall pregnant if you have missed pills in the first week of your strip.
What if I have a stomach upset?
If you vomit within the first three hours of taking Cerazette, the hormones may not have fully absorbed into your blood stream so the pill may not be as effective. You should treat this pill like a missed pill and follow the instructions above. Likewise, if you have severe diarrhoea, this may affect the effectiveness of the pill and you will not be protected from pregnancy.
