Ovysmen and Pregnancy

You should not use the contraceptive pill if you are pregnant so if you think that you might be, you need to do a pregnancy test to confirm and visit your doctor. If you are pregnant, stop taking the pill immediately and your doctor will advise you on the next steps.

If you want to become pregnant, Ovysmen is easily reversible. All you need to do is stop taking the contraceptive pill. The pill should not affect your fertility levels but it may take a few months before your menstrual cycle returns to normal. It is also advised that you wait until you have had a regular period before trying for a baby. This is not essential but it is easier for the doctor to work out your due date if you know when your last regular period is so use condoms until that time.

If you are breast-feeding, you should not use the contraceptive pill. The pill can reduce the amount of milk that you produce so you may not produce a sufficient amount of milk to feed your baby. You can also pass on a small amount of the hormones to your baby through the breast milk and the effects of this are not known. Therefore, you are advised to wait until you have weaned your child off breast milk and in the mean time use another method of contraception that will not affect your milk production.

You can use Ovysmen after you have had a baby as long as you are not breast-feeding and are fully mobile. You can start using the pill 21 days after giving birth and you will be immediately protected from pregnancy. You can start any time after this but you will not be protected immediately and you will need to use additional contraception for seven days.
