Risks of Gedarel
A couple of diseases have been associated with the use of the contraceptive pill as it has been found that the pill can slightly increase the risk of some cancers, liver disease or blood clots. Although extremely rare, it is important that you understand that there is a slight chance of increasing the risk of these disorders if you use the contraceptive pill.
Gedarel and cancer
The main cancer that the pill has been linked to is breast cancer. Any woman has the chance of having breast cancer regardless of whether you are on the pill, but if you use the pill the risk of having the disease slightly increases. This increased risk will return to normal ten years after you stop taking the contraceptive pill. It has been observed that there is a slightly higher number of breast cancer cases in women who use the pill than women who have never used the pill, but it is inconclusive as to whether the pill is involved in this uptake. Breast cancer is also correlated with age so having breast cancer under the age of 40 is extremely rare. This is why women who are in their thirties are monitored more closely if they use the pill because they are getting older and their risk of cancer will naturally increase.
Gedarel and blood clots
If you are using the contraceptive pill, there is an increased risk of blood clot formation. The hormone oestrogen can cause the blood to clot more easily and as you are increasing the levels of the hormone by taking the pill, you also increase this risk. Blood clots are potentially very dangerous because they can form in important blood vessels that supply vital organs such as the heart and the brain. If they block these blood vessels, they prevent the blood from reaching these organs and can cause a heart attack or a stroke. The blood clots can also form in the lower leg and become a health risk when they break off and travel around the circulation where they become lodged in the lungs and cause a pulmonary embolism.
There are other factors besides the pill that can increase the risk of blood clots, so if you are overweight, smoke, have a family history of blood clots, are going to be immobile for a long period of time, have high blood pressure or have high blood fat content and you use Gedarel, you risk will be increased. The risk of blood clots also increases with age.
Liver disease
Although extremely rare, there have been cases reported of benign liver tumours of liver problems whilst using the contraceptive pill. In the even rarer event, the tumours could be malignant so if you experience severe abdominal pain, you should seek medical attention.
