Side Effects of Cilest
As is the case with most medications, Cilest can cause a number of side effects. The chances of you experiencing any of these side effects is rare, and if you do, they will normally only last for the first few months when taking the pill. However, should any of the following side effects affect you for a long period of time or you experience any of the serious side effects, you should contact your doctor. It may be that Cilest is not the right type of contraceptive pill for you and you may need to switch to a brand with a different dose.
Common side effects that have been associated with Cilest affect approximately one in ten women. Period pain may be a side effect or bleeding and spotting throughout your cycle, especially when it is not your pill free break. This is perfectly normal and can occur from time to time but if you experience any unusual or heavy vaginal bleeding, you should seek advice from your doctor. Other common side effects include headaches, nausea and potentially vomiting.
The following side effects affect just under 1 in 100 women. You may experience mood swings that could progress into depression or anxiety. If you feel you are affected by these and they are not a one-time occurrence, you may need to change contraception. Migraines are also a common side effect but if you have never experienced a migraine before or they are very severe you need to contact your doctor. Other side effects may include swelling of limbs, weight gain, trouble sleeping, thrush or urinary tract infections. Acne, tender breasts or constipation may also affect you.
There are a number of uncommon side effects that have been reported to be associated with the use of Cilest. These affect less than 1 in 100 women and include changes in sex drive, hot flushes, ovarian cysts, breast fluid, hair loss, palpitations, muscle pain or changes in skin colour.
There are also extremely rare side effects that include loss of sex drive, lumpy breasts, pancreatitis, photosensitivity, which is increased sensitivity to light, a feeling or giddiness or increased sweating. The chances of you experiencing any of these side effects are rare as they affect less than 1 in 1000 women.
Serious side effects
If you experience any of the following side effects, they could be indicative of another medical condition and you must seek medical attention immediately as some of the conditions are life threatening.
If you experience changes in vision, chest pain, headaches or migraines that are unusual, numbness, difficulty breathing or blurred speech, these are signs of a heart attack or a stroke and you need medical attention as soon as possible. Difficulty breathing and chest pain may also be indicative of a blood clot, together with pains down your legs so you need to contact your doctor.
If you have convulsions, hives, problems breathing or swelling of the face or mouth and tongue, you may be having an allergic reaction to the medication so you need medical attention immediately.
You must regularly check your breasts for signs of breast cancer because the earlier the cancer is noticed, the easier it is to diagnose and treat. Signs of breast cancer may include lumps in the breast, changes in the nipple or dimpling of the skin. If you think you have found one of these signs, seek medical advice.
