Side Effects of Mercilon
Every medication has the potential to cause some side effects and Mercilon is no different. Although there are women who never experience side effects, the pill has been associated with a number of side effects that can be annoying. Also, there are some rare side effects that are more serious and you should report any of these to your doctor if you experience them because they could be signs of illnesses.
Some side effects that are common amongst pill users are headaches and bleeding or spotting in between periods. These usually occur within the first few months of using the pill and will not cause you harm. However, if you experience severe headaches or migraines or have heavy bleeding, you should tell your doctor immediately. You may also experience stomach problems such as nausea, vomiting or stomach upsets. There is a chance that your breasts may be tender, you may have mood swings or depression, you may have fluctuations in your weight and your blood pressure may increase. If the increase in this level is too high, you may not be able to use the contraceptive pill.
There are certain side effects that can be indicative of dangerous conditions that have been associated with the pill. Mercilon has been associated with blood clots which can lead to heart attacks and strokes so if you experience chest pains, swelling in the limbs, breathing problems, pain in the legs, dizziness or numbness in parts of your body, you should seek medical attention. The pill has also been linked to some cancers so check your breasts for changes such as lumps, dimples or nipple changes. Signs of cervical cancer include pain during sexual intercourse, bloody discharge, pelvic pain or unusual vaginal bleeding. There is a rare chance that the pill can cause liver disease so severe abdominal pain or jaundice are indicators of this condition so report them to your doctor. Also, if you have an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients where your face, tongues or mouth swells then you must seek medical attention straight away.
Mercilon Risks
There are some risks that are associated with the contraceptive pill. Although these risks are rare, there has been some links between the pill and certain types of cancers and blood clots. There is a chance that Mercilon may increase the risk of breast cancer and cervical cancer. Breast cancer is rare in women who are under the age of 40 but there is a chance that it can increase your risk of cancer if you use it at certain ages. For example, if you use the pill in your thirties for 5 years, there is a slightly higher risk of breast cancer than if you use it in your twenties. Other factors can increase this risk so if you are overweight or have a family history of breast cancer, there is a higher risk when you use the pill.
Blood clots have also been linked to the contraceptive pill. The hormone oestrogen can increase the chance of your blood clotting together when it is not supposed to. This can create clumps of cells that can block your blood vessels, which can cut off blood flow to vital organs. If the vessels that supply your heart or your brain are blocked, you will experience a heart attack or a stroke. There is also a chance of having a pulmonary embolism where a blood clot forms in the leg, breaks off and travels to the lungs where it blocks the lungs blood vessels and this can lead to death. There are other factors involved in increasing this risk so if you have a history of blood clots, smoke, have heart problems, have diabetes affecting the blood vessels or drink too much alcohol, the risk may be too high for you to use the pill.
