Taking Norgeston
The mini pill needs to be taken everyday in order to be effective. If it is not taken correctly, you will not be protected from pregnancy. Unlike other contraceptive pills, you do not have a pill free break and you always take Norgeston.
Each strip contains 35 pills that each have a day of the week printed above them. You should start by taking the pill that has the day of the week that corresponds to the day you are on. This calendar system allows you to record which pills you have taken so that you can see if you have missed one. You must take a pill every day at the same time every day. If you do not take the pill at the same time, you will not be protected from pregnancy. Follow the strip round, taking one pill a day until you have finished the strip. When you have come to the end, start the next strip immediately so do not have a break in-between strips. If you are late in starting the pill you will not be protected from pregnancy. You will have a period at some point during the cycle.
If you are just about to start using this form of contraception, take it on the first day of your period. This will ensure that you are protected from pregnancy immediately. If you do not take it at this time, you will need additional contraception because you will not be protected from pregnancy.
What happens if I forget the pill?
If you forget to take Norgeston, you will not be protected from pregnancy. It depends how long it has been since you forgot the pill. If you forgot to take the pill but it has been less than three hours since the time you were supposed to take it, take the pill immediately. You should continue with the strip as normal and you should still be protected from pregnancy.
However, if you are more than three hours late in taking the pill or if you have missed more than one pill, you will not be protected from pregnancy. If you are in either of these situations, take the last pill immediately and carry on with the rest of the pack. You must also use additional contraception for the next seven days. If you have had unprotected sex during this time, there is a chance that you could be pregnant, so contact your doctor.
