Adjusting the Inman Aligner

Adjustments have been a dreaded part of the process of having braces fitted in the past. The traditional metal braces with which we are familiar and often associate with orthodontistry would require frequent, and often uncomfortable, adjustments to ensure that teeth are being realigned in the desired fashion. This aspect of orthodontic braces has naturally been the subject of manufacturer attention, and many modern orthodontic braces have addressed the issue of adjustment frequency and comfort in their own unique manner. The Inman Aligner is no exception, and in this article we look at how and when adjustments are performed to ensure the Inman Aligner is working effectively.

The need for adjusting the Inman Aligner

The Inman Aligner will require some adjusting because of how the device works. In principle, orthodontic devices work to realign teeth by applying a constant, steady force that gradually reorients your teeth into a new, straighter alignment. The Inman Aligner follows this principle, albeit through a unique mechanism which involves the use of two aligning bows which simultaneously apply a pushing and pulling force to straighten teeth.

Over the course of the Inman Aligner’s treatment, these forces will need to be adjusted to ensure that both the adequate amount of realigning force is applied and that it is applied in the right direction. Fortunately these adjustment sessions are usually very straightforward with minimal discomfort, if any involved. The frequency of these sessions will vary according to your individual treatment regime, and this is simply because no two sets of teeth are alike, and no two sets of teeth will respond to the Aligner in the same way.

Your dentist will also use these sessions as an opportunity to monitor your progress throughout the treatment. Typically you can expect adjustment appointments anywhere from every 2-4 weeks, and considering the fact that Inman Aligner’s effects usually only take a number of weeks to achieve, this will typically add up to a small number of adjustment appointments.

It is important that you attend your adjustment sessions regardless of how frequent these appointments might be as they are a vital part of ensuring you receive an effective and lasting treatment.
