Microgynon 30 and Pregnancy

Microgynon 30 should not be used if you are pregnant as the hormones levels are supposed to prevent you from pregnancy. If you think that you may be pregnant, you should perform a pregnancy test and see your doctor for advice. Don’t stop using the pill unless you have confirmation of your pregnancy and if you are, stop immediately.

If you want to try for a baby, all you have to do is stop using Microgynon 30. The contraceptive pill is one of the most easily reversible methods of contraception and it should not affect your fertility. However, it may take a while for your periods to become regular after you stop using the pill. It is recommended that you wait until you have had a regular period before you try for a baby so that you can tell your doctor when you last period was so that they can work out your due date from the information.

If you are breast-feeding, you should not use the contraceptive pill. The pill can reduce the milk that you produce so you may not produce a sufficient amount to feed your child. Also, you can pass the hormones through your milk to the baby and the effects of this are not known. You should use another method of contraception until you have stopped breast-feeding.

If you are not breast-feeding and you are fully mobile, you can start using the contraceptive pill 21 days after delivery. You will need to use another method of contraception until you start using the pill and you will also need to use this additional protection for one week after you start taking the pill.
