Can Microgynon 30 Affect Other Medications?
Microgynon 30 can have some adverse effects on other medications and stop them from working properly. Other medications can also render the pill ineffective which is a problem because you will not be protected from pregnancy when you think you are. It is important to mention any type of medication that you are using to your doctor so they can make sure that the pill wont be affected and that your medication will still work properly.
Any medications that are used to treat epilepsy will prevent Microgynon 30 from working properly. Most medication that is given to treat HIV will also have a similar effect. Using antibiotics or anti-fungals will cause the pill to stop working properly. Also some sedatives such as barbiturates can reduce the effectiveness of the pill. If you are going to be using these medications for a long period of time, you should use a method of contraception that is not affected by these medications. If you are only going to use these medications for a short period of time, continue with the pill but use additional contraception until you have finished the medications and for one week after.
Un-prescribed medications such as herbal remedies can also affect the contraceptive pill. St Johns wort is used to treat depression but it can also stop the pill from working. The pill can also interfere with how other medications work and your dose may need to be changed. Your doctor will decide what is the best course of action if this is the case. It is also important to remember that if you go for a blood test, the pill can change some of the results.
