Caverject for Erectile Dysfunction
Caverject is used to treat the symptoms of erectile dysfunction by increasing the blood flow in the penis to allow your erection to become more ridged and longer lasting. Caverject is administered into the penis via pre filled injections. These Caverject injections are only available on prescription and it is essential that you seek advice from your GP before using this treatment as you may unsuitable for this treatment.
Caverject is often seen as an alternative option to oral tablets and surgery as Caverject often gives positive results to those men that have not previously had success with other treatments. After injecting the penis with Caverject it can take between 5 to 20 minutes for you to be able to have an erection and you should be able to see these effects for upto an hour.
Warnings when using Caverjet
It is important to never use the Caverject injections more than once in a 24 hour period and ideally the injections should not be used more than 3 times a week to ensure that you are not putting yourself at risk from serious risks and side effects.
Caverject injections are available on the NHS as long as you fall into the suitability categories to have free treatment for your erectile dysfunction. To find out whether or not you are entitled to the treatment on the NHS you should meet with your GP to discuss the causes and effects of your condition. If you do not fall into one of these categories than you can still be prescribed the Caverject injections but only on a private prescription. This will cost more than a NHS one however once you have been advised by a doctor about the treatment then you may be able to purchase the medication online at a reduced price. The average price for one Caverject injections cost between £8 -£10.
The Caverject Injections
The Caverject medication is prescribed in pre-filled syringes which are then administered directly into the base of the penis. The injections are sealed and distributed in frozen packs and because of this you should store the medication in your freezer or fridge because if the medicine is in a warm environment for over 3 hours the medicine may be affected. If you choose to refrigerate the injections you should then use them within 7 days.
It is extremely important that you are fully instructed on how to prepare and use the injections so you can make sure that you are not putting yourself at further risk of side effects from the medication. Before going ahead with the treatment you should know how to administer the injection and how to tell if the syringe has not filled properly and how to deal with any of the potential risks that could occur.
Here are some important points to consider before going ahead with the treatment;
- Before administering the injection you should make sure that the syringe has been filled with the correct dose of medication because the wrong dosage of Caverject could cause very serious side effects
- You should never use a needle that has been used before or if it has been bent or broken, this is because if you use a broken needle it could potentially break off and remain in the penis
- You should make sure that you thoroughly wash your hands before handling the needle and you then must clean and prepare the injection site before injecting the medication because if the skin is unclean this could cause infections
- You should only use the syringe if the solution is clear it should be discarded if it is cloudy or if it has separated
