MUSE for Erectile Dysfunction

MUSE is a commonly used treatment for erectile dysfunction. The treatment consists of a urethral stick containing alprostadil which is then inserted into the urethra. It is essential that you urinate before inserting the urethral stick into the penis as the medication has to be able to be dissolved for it to begin to work.

This MUSE treatment works by helping to relax the muscles in the blood vessel wall which will allow blood to flow more freely into the penis. This will then help you to be able to have a harder erection for a longer period of time. After administering the medication an erection will normally be able to take place after 5 or 10 minutes. The effects of the medication will last for around 60 minutes although this is not guaranteed and the results may decrease as your body gets used to the medication.

MUSE on the NHS

MUSE is available on the NHS as long as you are eligible for the erectile dysfunction treatment. These categories include factors such as being over 60 or if you have a physical disability.  If you do not fall into one of these categories and you are not eligible for treatment to help with your condition on the NHS you can still visit a private doctor to be able to get MUSE on a private prescription. This will obviously cost more than an NHS prescription, but after you have been checked over by a doctor to make sure that you are able to have the treatment you will then be able to purchase the medication online at a reputable website for a discounted price.

Before going ahead with your treatment it is important to discuss with your GP the best dosage for your condition. The most common starting dosage for MUSE is 250 micrograms although this will vary from person to person and it can also depend on your medical history and your current health status.
