Medicines which can affect Erectile Dysfunction

Many common and well used medicines could be the cause of your erectile dysfunction and it is important to know which ones of these may be causing your problems.

The first category of substances which you should stop using are the drugs which could be affecting you without you even realising that they are causing your erectile dysfunction. These substances include;

  • Alcohol
  • Nicotine (Cigarettes)
  • Marijuana (Weed)
  • Heroin and Methadone
  • Amphetamines
  • Opiates

Medicines which may cause Erectile Dysfunction

Medicines and drugs which have been prescribed to you by the NHS could also be causing erectile dysfunction. If you think that this is the case you should carefully read all of the information which is provided with the medicines as erectile dysfunction could in fact be a common side effect of the drug.

Below are just some of the more widely known medications which could be causing your erectile dysfunction.

  • Anti depressant and other psychiatric drugs like Diazepam
  • Antihistamine medications which are commonly used to treat heartburn
  • Blood Pressure tablets such as beta blockers
  • Diuretics
  • Medication for Parkinson’s disease
  • Chemotherapy and Cancer treatments
  • Hormonal medications
  • Some varieties of painkillers

It is important to make an appointment with your GP if you feel that your medication could be causing erectile dysfunction. This is because your GP may be able to adapt and change the medication to suit you or at least be able to offer you some more tablets to counteract the side effect of erectile dysfunction.
